The Pirates took their set-up to support the biggest circus festival of this summer in Prague from 20th to 23rd August. Professional circus artists, fire performers, acrobats, aerialists, jugglers, musicians and set designers all came together for 4 days of action-packed workshops in the site of an old sugar factory on the outskirts of Prague.
We provided a workshop space in our 10 sq ft tent out of the hot summer sun, complete with circus props, a sound system and eye-catching decorations to inspire festival-goers to jam with us. Throughout the festival our crew members also had the chance to learn from some of the best instructors in the scene including fishtail workshops with European Juggling Convention champion Sebastian Berger, staff contact manipulation with Alain Fernandez and Buugeng choreography with Gustavo Olittta. We were also treated to Gala performances from professional group acts in the evening, after which we brought our excitement into the fire space with rope darts, poi, dragon staff and palm candles!
The festival was truly inspiring, not only in showing us what was possible in our Space Pirates vision, but also for giving us the chance to connect with partners and other circus collectives for future events. Only 343 days to go until next year (not like we’re counting or anything…!).
