XR-Climate Protest

For the third year we joined as the Circus Space Pirates the Extinction Rebellion protest week and supported with creative actions the climate protest “Rise Up”. This year it had been a joint venture of different environmental groups connecting their protest and making a common statement for a change. For us it was important to bring the creative language of the circus and our experience/infrastructure to transform public space into the picture. Joining the XR – preparation we could learn also about decentralized and self-organized dynamics of coordination and connect to wonderful people and work together on such an important topic.
We supported the opening festival at Alexanderplatz having a creative space with Circus for the kids and also offering screen printing space, we hosted a cacao ceremony and the main stage and shared our circus flow with the music. We set our circus tent as a permanent “Info-Point” for the whole week at the Neptunbrunnen and started with a Fire-jam supporting the energy to start  the “Rise Up”-Week.
On Tuesday we prepared together a truck for the climate-demonstration through the streets of Berlin. It had been a very inspiring week with a lot of learning and building connections with wonderful activists from various backgrounds. Once again we could show how the circus can be a valuable element of the protest culture and empower people to open their minds and hearts for social change. Solidarity with the planete had become an important aspect of our focus of action as a collective.
